NEWS: BLUEQ Joint Pilot Action – Field Activities in Chania, Crete

The BLUEQ team successfully completed a field trip in Chania as part of the Joint Pilot Action, advancing the collection of harmonized data for the assessment of Posidonia oceanica meadows in the Adriatic–Ionian region.

Through this coordinated effort, we collected samples and data to study Posidonia oceanica ecosystems — focusing on their spatial extent, the biodiversity they support, and the blue carbon they store.

During the mission, partners conducted in situ habitat mapping, drone-based surveys, and coastal observations, all following the methodologies defined during the BLUEQ Design Phase. These data will contribute directly to the development of the BLUEQ Joint Solution and support evidence-based monitoring and management of marine habitats.

This activity represents an important step in validating the tools and protocols that will be applied across all study areas within the project.
Next destination: Sicily, where the BLUEQ consortium will continue the Joint Pilot Action with the next round of field activities.
